Replacing milk: Many options for every taste

Vegan alternatives are trendy. This also applies to dairy products. It's not just vegans who are enthusiastic about plant milk. Anyone who eats consciously appreciates high-quality vegetable protein, the great variety and the different flavors of milk alternatives.

This is no longer just about the milk experience itself, but also about yogurt substitutes, cooking cream and more. In this article we have put together what delicious products await you and everything you should know about milk substitutes.

How can you replace milk & what products are there?

There can be many reasons for avoiding cow's milk and other types of animal milk. The reputation of cow's milk has been controversial in science for several years. Maybe you want to avoid animal products altogether or limit their use. You may find the taste and consistency of milk substitute products irritating you.

If you want to avoid cow's milk, goat's milk, etc., you can choose from many delicious milk alternatives. Not only different types of grain form the basis of plant milk. Coconut, soy, almonds and much more are also suitable for making plant milk.

When it comes to nutritional values, you also have a choice. Most plant-based milk alternatives score points with plant-based protein. Depending on the starting point, they bring additional micronutrients such as vitamins, trace elements and minerals. Some of the alternative dairy products are enriched with vitamins such as B12 and minerals such as calcium.

Some milk alternatives can be used to make products such as vegan yoghurt, vegan buttermilk substitutes and cooking cream. All plant-based milk alternatives share one ingredient: water. It forms a large proportion of milk substitutes.

Milk alternatives in particular can be an introduction to a vegan and/or more conscious diet because we often use dairy products in the kitchen. Milk-like products are indispensable for muesli, cooking and baking.

Plant milk also makes your menu more varied. Vegetarians and mixed food eaters are therefore increasingly turning to one or another milk substitute.

Variety is essential to a conscious and healthy diet. The different plant milk products can easily make their contribution to this. Last but not least, they are interesting because you can make plant milk yourself with relatively little effort. This saves money and conserves resources.

At Greenforce, we recognized the potential of plant-based milk products early on. So take a look at us if you are looking for a particularly high-quality, sustainable and resource-saving substitute for milk.

Are you ready to get involved in vegan milk alternatives? Then we will now introduce you to the different options. So in the end you know what you choose when it comes to Greenforce oat drink and Greenforce substitute for yogurt.

Milk alternatives at a glance

The topic of milk substitutes started a few years ago primarily with soy products. Other species were quickly added. Today, around a dozen plant-based milk alternatives are competing to replace cow's milk . Fortunately, most of them are already available everywhere.

However, the milk alternatives can differ in quality . That's why it's worth taking a look at the ingredients in each individual case. With the high-quality products from Greenforce you are always on the safe side.

By the way, we at Greenforce are particularly enthusiastic about oats and peas when it comes to milk substitutes. If we now introduce you to the various replacement products, you might realize why this is so.

Oats

Oats have been conquering one of the top places among plant-based milk alternatives for some time now. There are good reasons for that. Oats are generally a very high-quality grain that has many important nutrients. From a sustainability perspective, oats are also particularly suitable for being processed into milk substitutes.

The grain is grown here and does not have to be imported. Oat milk has a similar consistency to cow's milk. The slightly sweet taste is convincing in many dishes and also in coffee. In high-quality products like Greenforce, your oat drink only consists of oat flour, water and a little salt. Pure nature for your conscious diet.

Peas

The consistency of the legumes we use makes them particularly suitable for yoghurt replacement. Not only do they offer vegetable protein, but in combination with various fruit flavors as well as neutral, they offer a convincing taste experience.

Processing can be carried out sustainably and in a way that conserves resources. Enough reasons to choose pea-based vegan yoghurts at Greenforce .

soy

Soy milk is very similar to milk in terms of nutritional composition. In particular, it has an almost identical protein content. However, the vegan milk alternative contains less fat, calories and sugar.

In terms of sustainability, soy is generally not at the forefront because we do not regularly grow it. The production of soy milk requires more resources than other milk alternatives. At Greenforce we have taken these aspects into account and prefer other raw materials for the vegan alternatives.

almond

The almond drink impresses with its slightly nutty taste and milk-like consistency. The almonds contain vitamin E and valuable fats. Almonds are a relatively expensive raw material for milk alternatives.

Cultivation and production are relatively complex and require considerable water. That's why we at Greenforce prefer oats and peas as the basis for milk replacement .

coconut

A coconut drink is primarily suitable for cooking and baking. Eating it straight with muesli takes some getting used to. Coconut drinks have a different consistency than cow's milk.

They contain saturated fats. That's why fewer people decide to replace cow's milk with a coconut drink. Another consideration for us at Greenforce is that the ingredients for a coconut drink have to be imported.

nut

The hazelnut drink is primarily popular in this area. Sometimes it has an intense, nutty aroma. Not everyone can tolerate hazelnuts. In addition to the high-fat nutrient profile, this is one reason why we at Greenforce do not replace milk with hazelnut.

hemp

Similar to a hazelnut drink, a hemp drink also has a distinct taste of its own. Hemp has a lot to offer in terms of nutritional composition. Hemp seeds have a unique fatty acid profile that is very beneficial to our health.

Hemp also contains protein. However, drinks made from hemp have a slightly different texture than cow's milk. This milk alternative is more suitable for cooking and baking than for consumption in cereal or coffee. That's why we chose the oat drink for our breakfast package at Greenforce.

Rice & Lupine

A rice drink has a very neutral taste. The consistency is rather watery and less similar to cow's milk. For many people, this milk alternative is too sober to consume straight. She can do a lot when it comes to cooking and baking. At Greenforce we prefer oats.

The lupine drink is made from a plant that many people are more familiar with as a fodder plant. It has an interesting nutrient profile with some minerals such as magnesium and calcium. The creamy consistency is reminiscent of milk. The taste is usually described as rather neutral.

The plant alternatives in comparison - with a view to resource consumption

If you look at vegan alternatives with particular consideration of the resources of water, land and CO₂ equivalents, one thing quickly becomes clear: oats use the fewest resources in all three areas during production. This makes oats particularly attractive to us at Greenforce as a base for our drink to replace cow's milk.

How can you make plant drinks yourself?

Making plant milk yourself is an interesting way to eat consciously and conserve resources.

To a certain extent, you contribute to the production of an oat drink yourself when you choose our Greenforce oat drink . Since we at Greenforce attach particular importance to resource conservation, you add the water to the oat flour yourself. If you want, the final step in making the Greenforce oat drink is up to you.

Would you like to make your own plant milk? This can be done in a relatively simple way. You will need a blender, water and a mulching cloth. Depending on the starting point for the vegan milk product , you can make a flour from oats or a puree from other raw materials such as almonds. The plant base is mixed with water. You then press the mixture through a mulching or filter cloth into a container to create a homogeneous consistency.

You can add some salt or sweetener to your plant milk to taste. You also decide for yourself about the ratio of plant mass and water.

Retailers offer devices with which you can easily produce plant-based milk alternatives on a larger scale. The individual production steps are taken over directly by the device.

Can you also make plant-based yogurt or buttermilk substitutes vegan?

Characteristic of yogurt are the added yogurt cultures and a process that requires heat. If you want to replace milk, that's possible. Here you can make yogurt from coconut or soy, among other things, by adding cultures. Special devices are offered for making yoghurt, which you can also use for vegan substitute products.

Buttermilk substitutes are created from cow's milk when the cream is made by flocculating the protein components. Therefore, base materials that also flocculate are suitable for plant-based buttermilk. This is particularly the case with soy. You need soy and an acidic component like lemon juice. With the acid contained in lemon juice, you create the basis for the soy milk to curdle. Apple cider vinegar is also suitable as an acid ingredient.
