On average, Germans eat more than 200 eggs a year. But have you ever thought about where your breakfast egg comes from? What kind of animal is the chicken and why should we avoid eggs?
Below you will get to know chickens better and we will give you 6 reasons why you should choose our Easy To Mix Vegan Egg instead of eggs.
No, on the contrary : chickens are very intelligent and curious animals. They make friends and form social hierarchies. Because they have a very good memory and can not only recognize up to 100 members of their species, but also remember certain people.
Chickens can also alert each other to certain events through complex communication. They have more than 30 different sounds ready for this.
Hens even talk to their unborn chicks and teach them certain sounds before they hatch.
Overall, hens have a very close relationship with their chicks : the mother hen is always concerned about her chicks, protects the chicks and teaches them everything they need to know later in life.
In addition to eating, sleeping and scratching, a chicken's favorite activities also include sunbathing and long sand baths. Personal hygiene is also very important for chickens.
Another special fact about our feathered friends concerns their sense: While chickens are very good at recognizing small objects nearby and colors in daylight, they have major deficits in distance vision and are virtually night blind.
This is why chickens are equipped with vibration organs, especially on their legs, and can therefore sense the smallest vibrations in the ground and air.
As you may notice, chickens are smart animals with character, feelings and sensitivity to pain. That's why they suffer extremely from the egg industry system.
1. Male chicks were killed by early 2022
In large factories, chicks hatch from the egg and, like their lucky counterparts, do not have the opportunity to examine the ground for exciting things or to seek protection from their mother.
Instead, they were sorted by gender immediately after hatching : while the female chicks were transported to laying farms and faced a life full of suffering and darkness, male chicks were painfully gassed.
Because in the egg industry these are worthless and bring no profit. From 2022 there will be a law in Germany that prohibits the killing of male day-old chicks. The sex is usually determined in the hatching egg and male embryos are then sorted out and no longer hatched. However, there is no end to animal suffering .
2. Chickens suffer from breeding laying hens
Did you know that the original breed of chicken only lays an average of 20 to 30 eggs a year ? Laying hens, on the other hand, were bred to be real egg machines: They lay up to 300 eggs a year and suffer a lot because of it. They lay an egg every 25 hours. This causes inflammation in the abdominal cavity. In addition, because of the limited space in factory farms, the chickens are under extreme stress and peck at each other. The operators often don't care whether a chicken has a broken wing or a broken leg.
3. Laying hens have short, painful lives
A happy chicken can live up to eight years . Laying hens, on the other hand, are not happy and are slaughtered after 1 to 2 years. Because during this time they would actually moult (i.e. change their feathers) and cannot lay eggs during this time. Since within the egg industry the equation no eggs equals no money applies, the older chickens are slaughtered and simply exchanged for younger and “fresh” chickens.
5. Organic doesn't always mean better
When you hear the word organic, you imagine happy, free-range chickens that occasionally lay an egg, which can then be bought and eaten with a clear conscience. Unfortunately, this does not entirely correspond to reality. The requirements of the normal EU organic seal for eggs are very weak: organic here means that there can be a maximum of 6 hens per square meter. Unfortunately, that's still not a lot of space for a single chicken.
6. The Easy To Mix Vegan Egg tastes just as good
After much research, we have cracked the “ Code of Egg ” and now it is possible to enjoy your scrambled eggs or omelette completely cruelty-free. Our secret ingredient: the German field bean. The miracle plant from Germany contains many vitamins and minerals, making our vegan eggs a real treat! From now on the hen can concentrate on her favorite activities such as sunbathing and scratching and only has to lay an egg every now and then when she feels like it.
